Aspen Powe’s CEO Jorge Vargas recently sat down with Nico Johnson, host of SunCast to discuss Aspen Power and our business strategy.
The distributed generation market is evolving as power prices rise and financing becomes harder to secure. Smaller developers are facing new challenges, while independent power producers (IPPs) like Aspen Power are stepping in to keep projects moving—acquiring assets, structuring capital, and expanding distributed solar in key markets.
Jorge shared insights into our approach to financing and acquiring solar portfolios, emphasizing our commitment to being a developer-friendly platform that provides stable capital. With access to capital being one of the biggest challenges in distributed generation today, Aspen Power is helping developers secure the funding and support they need to bring projects to completion.
He also discussed our buyback inititaive—an alternative model for distributed generation—where we acquire solar systems originally developed by Safari Energy and others. By owning these assets, we remove them from balance sheets, optimize performance, and integrate them into our portfolio. For real estate owners who may not be well-versed in solar, this means enhanced maintenance, potential system upgrades (such as larger panels for greater output), and the ability to leverage incentive programs to maximize value
