Jorge Vargas shares insight on rising residential energy costs in Utility Dive

It’s no secret that energy costs are rising. In fact, residential prices rose 6.1% year over year in August, even as total generation and sales declined, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.

Aspen Power CEO Jorge Vargas spoke to Utility Dive and said the data confirms that curtailing renewable generation is driving up costs for consumers.

“They’re curtailing generation at a time where there’s a lot of demand, and consumers and businesses are going to be the ones who pay for this” he shared. As aging grid and unpredictable regulations contribute to higher prices, investing in distributed generation can strengthen local grids and deliver reliable, affordable power to communities.
